1. Write a short hortatory exposition passage about payment system. You may start with :
     For me, paying with credit card is not practical, because I don't do shopping a lot. Besides, I usually  
    buy my daily needs for example vegetables in traditional market because of the freshness.-------------

Explanation

A. Material Summary
   - Social function     : factual text used to explain the process involved in the evolution of natural and social
                                  phenomena, or how something works. In the school curriculum, explanation is one of
                                  descriptive text.
   - Generic structure : general statement ( to position the reader)
                                  sequenced explanation of why / how something occurs ( usually a series of logical steps
                                  in the process)
B. Example
                    How Desert Remains Dry
There are three reasons why deserts remain dry. These are high mountain barriers, cold ocean currents, and high pressure systems.
Mountain Barriers
When warm air passes over the ocean it picks up moisture in the form of form of water vapor. As this moist air travels over the land, it rises to pass over mountain ranges. When it begins to rise, the air cools and this causes the water vapor to condense into droplest which fall as rain. When the air reaches the other side of mountain barrier, it has lost all its moisture and so the other side of mountain remains dry

      narrative deals with problematic events which lead to a crisis or turning point of some kind, which in turn
      finds a resolution.
   - Generic structure :
      a. Orientation ( showing participants and setting)
      b. Complication ( containing problem that arises)
      c. Resolution ( showing the way to solve the existing problem)
      d. Reorientation ( Optional)

Discussion Text

A discussion is a piece of writing that explores both sides of an issue. In discussion text the writer tries to present the pros and cons or the advantage and disadvantages of an issue to allow the readers to reach a logical conclusion. The writer should always try to give an impersonal and balanced view.

  • Communicative purpose: to present arguments / opinion from different points of view.
  • Examples of discussion texts : Newspaper editorials, debates, thesis, journals.
  • The organization of a discussion text, a discussion text consists of four main parts: issue, arguments for, arguments against and conclusion / recommendation.
  1. Issue; this part introduces the topic and previews the arguments that the rest of paragraphs expand upon.
  2. Arguments for; arguments for is positive arguments or in agreement with the issue. Each stage of the argument consists of a point, then gives a detailed information or evidence to support it
